where you are,

If you

don't like

move on.

You are not a tree!

- Syllke Hylmer

It is better

to look back

on life and say"

"I can't believe

I did that." Then to look back and say:

"I wish I did that!"

//Syllke Hilmer

Syllke Hilmer, currently of Glencoe Farm in California, began her passion for horses at the ripe age of 3. Born and raised in Germany, she started riding officially in at age 7. Before that she had ponies in her grandparent's farm in their lush rolling pastures. When she turned 11 years old, she became a member of the Regional Young Rider Team competing in Dressage, 3-Day Eventing as well as Jumpers. At age 16, she was hand picked by the finest German equestrians to compete in her first International Event in Bogota, Columbia, in South America. After winning this competition on a borrowed horse, she then relocated continued to ride and train in California.

As she enjoyed developing young horses, her passion stayed with Dressage.  Over the years she has been invited to ride and train with well known and respected Equestrians such as the great:

  • Dr. Reiner Klimke
  • Klaus Balkenhol
  • Uwe Schulten Baumer
  • Michael Klimke
  • Steffen Peters
  • Betsy Steiner
  • Kathy Connely
She has trained horses to successfully compete in Grand Prix Dressage and with her former husband Calvin McDonald, (former member of the Irish Show Jumping team), she has worked with students and horses to go on to win in Grand Prix jumper arena as well!
Having earned her Bronze and Silver Medals in the US (Dressage) and her Bronze and Junior Medals in Germany sets her at the top in the sport of Dressage and Jumping.
What sets Syllke Hilmer apart from many others is not only her skills, deep experience and knowledge in the equine industry but also her innate ability and knowing to define and aid in connecting the horse and rider, thereby improving the relationship and communication on many levels.
Sylke Hilmer also specializes in being able to tune in and define what is needed to move horse and rider to the next level. Her uncanny ability to see into the mind and the heart of the horse, make suggestions and adjustments, leads to happy horses and happy riders every time!
She is currently expanding her Dressage/Communication clinics given now in Arizona, Atlanta, California and Germany to include Utah now and more to come!
